Montgomery County Volunteer Fire - Rescue Association Announces Award of Federal Grant for Recruiting New Volunteers

Congratulations to our partners in public safety on receiving this federal grant to support volunteer fire and rescue recruiting and retention.

Chief Jim Jarboe Receives National Award

Congratulations to Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department’s Chief Jim Jarboe as he was recognized by the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) with the NVFC Fire Prevention and Education Award. 

Chief Jarboe was recognized for his over 50 years of providing fire prevention and education training to the Takoma Park community.  To view the write up please click here.

MCFRS Recruiting Section Hiring Update

Unfortunately, due to budgetary constraints, MCFRS will not hire a recruit class in 2015.  The current eligibility list is set to expire in June of 2015.  Pending budgetary approval, we anticipate having an entry level exam in the Fall of 2015 to establish a new eligibility list.

Retired Accountant Trades Office for Saving Lives

Silver Spring Volunteer EMT Jerry Leener joins respected and legendary journalist Jane Pauley on the NBC TODAY show in a featured segment, “Life Reimagined TODAY” which is produced and sponsored by AARP and showcases unique, encore careers. 

Jerry Leener, volunteer EMT with the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department had a long and successful career as a CPA at Price Waterhouse but wanted more. After retirement he decided to move on and give back to the community by helping people when they need it most, during emergency situations and became a volunteer EMT three years ago. “Life Reimagined TODAY” will air Wednesday, March 27th between 8:30-9 a.m. in most U.S. time zones.

Volunteer Firefighter Of The Year Award

Every year the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire/ Rescue Association bestows the  George Hillard Award for Firefighter of the Year to the Volunteer Firefighter that exemplifies excellence and dedication. Master Firefighter Robert ‘RJ’ James from Rockville Volunteer Fire Department received this distinction for 2012. Master Firefighter James was recognized for his dedication to training, including his design and development of forcible entry props and drills.
