Renovation Of Kensington/Aspen Hill Fire Station 25

Plans are in the works for the renovation and expansion of existing Fire Station 25 located in the Aspen Hill section of the county.

Growth in the Aspen Hill Area has increased demands on the existing fire station, which was constructed in 1988. The current facility lacks space for the number of firefighters assigned to this location, and needs additional space for the larger amount of fire apparatus needed at this station.

Planning calls for work to begin in 12 months and to last for up to 24 months. Check out the plans below. You can also learn more about the project by going to the Montgomery County DGS Division of Building Design and Construction.

New Glenmont Fire Station #18 Update

Construction of new Glenmont Fire Station #18 is progressing along nicely! If everything continues to go according to plan, the new station could be up and running sometime in November of this year.

The old Fire Station #18 was demolished several months ago as the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) was building a new intersection at Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road and the old station was located on the planned intersection site. This replacement fire station will be located on a different site but in proximity to the service area of the current station.

Currently, Fire Station #18’s units and crews are operating out of the old Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad station located on Grandview Avenue.

Kensington Volunteer Fire Department Places New Ambulance In Service

On Saturday February 20, Kensington Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) put in service new Ambulance 705 (A705).  In attendance leading the ceremony for KVFD were President Norm Jones, Chief Jayme Heflin, Deputy Chiefs Tom Jones and John “Red” Connell. The county was represented by Division Chief Alan Hinde and the blessing of the ambulance was done by Rev. Bill Wadsworth.

The officers and members of KVFD would like to thank the entire Kensington community for their help in raising the funds needed to make this purchase happen.

A705 is a 2016 Road Rescue built on a 2016 Freightliner M2 chassis, it comes with standard BLS outfitting and a Cool Bar HVAC system.  This unit will greatly help in responding to over 2700 ALS/BLS calls annually out of station 5 in Kensington.
