Veteran's Day Reflection

Below is a Veteran's Day Reflection sent to all MCFRS Personnel earlier today from Fire Chief Scott Goldstein:

Please take a moment today to thank a friend, a co-worker, a family member, or a passing military member/veteran – for their service to our Nation.

This date specifically honors the anniversary of the end of World War I, Armistice Day, and Remembrance Day and is used by our nation as a day to honor our military veterans.

Today we honor the service of our military members and the sacrifices they and their families have made to provide the freedoms we enjoy daily. This includes many career and volunteer members of MCFRS that have served in the armed forces and those that continue today to serve both their community as a fire rescue provider and the military.

For those personnel assigned to work today or on their standby period today/tonight, as you have ensured your apparatus and facilities is ready for operations and response – please take a second to interface with the community and thank any military members encountered for their service. Also take a moment to reflect on the freedom we experience today and the sacrifices made to guarantee those freedoms.

Montgomery County Firefighters Pipes & Drums Perform for Wounded Warriors

By Captain Rick Blandford

On July 17th members of the Montgomery County Firefighters Pipes & Drums performed for “Marines Helping Marines Foundation” during a cookout at Walter Reed Hospital.

In attendance were Marines and Soldiers who where wounded while protecting our great nation. The cookouts are held every three months to give the service men & women a relaxed atmosphere and a good old fashion Bar-B-Q meal.

A true honor and privilege for us all.

Montgomery County Firefighters Pipes & Drums Honor Wounded Warrior

By: Captain Rick Blandford

This past Saturday the Montgomery County Firefighters Pipes and Drums band, along with members of our brother bands in the area, escorted Lance Corporal Michael Martinez to the site of his new modified home. We were proud to play the ceremony that honored a returning warrior who so proudly served his country.

The home was presented to LCpl Martinez at the key ceremony on Saturday and was built by "Home for our Troops", a non-profit organization that provides specially adapted homes for severely wounded veterans at no cost to those veterans.

Toys for the Holidays …Help Us Help Others

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and local fire and rescue departments will again be collecting toys for needy families and underprivileged children during the 2012 holiday season starting on December 5, 2012. For many years various Montgomery County volunteer fire and rescue stations have worked with local community groups, civic organizations and government agencies to make the holiday season a little better for area families.

All Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Stations will serve as drop off sites for new unwrapped toys, including those toys to be used for existing annual local volunteer fire department initiatives supporting neighborhood and local community holiday programs, as well as, the regional 2012 Toys for Tots Campaign in conjunction with the United States Marines.
Fire Departments throughout the metro region, including those in Montgomery County will be collecting toys for children during the 2012 holiday season. Toys may be dropped off until December 18, 2012

MCFRS Personnel Help Out at Bethesda Fisher House’s

By: Robert J. Faas Jr.
Fire Station 34 “A” Shift

Last week fire department personnel from Montgomery County, Washington DC and Northern Virginia stopped by the Fisher Houses in Bethesda to help support our wounded warriors and their families.  The Fisher House is an organization that provides a home away from home for the families of our wounded warriors who are receiving medical care at a nearby military hospital or medical center.

The group provided appetizers, salads, Baked Ziti and dessert for the soldiers and their families that were staying there.  It was an honor and privilege for all involved!
