Silver Spring Fire Station 16 has decided to spruce the back stairs up with some station pride. The bottom stairs boast "Tradition", "Pride" and "Integrity." The top stairs state: "you are about to become part of something greater than yourself, welcome to Co.16."

Firefighter Bill Naugle from 16B came up with the concept, was the driving force behind this project and saw it through until it was complete. Thanks to Firefighter Naugle for his total dedication!

Attention Fire Service Personnel - Arrive Alive & Survive Symposium Conference

A must attend, national conference for all public safety personnel. The conference will include best safety practices for the fire service. These best practices will focus on: modern fire-fighting (based on research), roadway safety and traffic incident management, burn injury prevention and support, solar panel fire-fighting operations, Rescue Task Force operations, contamination of protective gear, Line-of-Duty Death and Close Call Reports, cancer in the fire service, and NFFF Programs.

Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters Currently Selling "Pink Awareness" Apparel to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters are currently selling various "Pink Awareness" apparel to show our Support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  As a matter of fact, you may have seen many of the MCFRS Firefighters wearing pink shirts while on duty to heighten awareness for this worthy cause.

All proceeds from the sales of these items will be donated to Susan G. Koman and Red Devils.  All items can be ordered through our web site by following this link:

Benefit Luau and Pig Roast for Retired Fire Fighter This Saturday

I just wanted to make every one out there aware of a wonderful fundraiser event scheduled for tomorrow. It is a luau and pig roast and the proceeds of this event go to the Don't Panic Foundation and to help pay for accommodations for Retired MCFRS Fire Fighter Mark Fisher’s family during his treatment at a Baltimore area hospital. His stay will be lengthy as he undergoes treatment for a job related illness.

The festivities start at 5pm at Fire Station 14 in Beallsville. See the flyer below for more information!

This is open to any and all folks and not just fire department personnel. Thanks to the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department for co-sponsoring this event!

NEWS RELEASE: Major Residential Fire Study to be Issued Today

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland will issue the results of a multi-institutional landmark national study on the effects of firefighter staffing levels and crew arrival times on residential firefighting operations. The report provides scientific data that will help inform fire chiefs and public officials make decisions on firefighting budgets, crew sizes and placement of fire stations. The field experiments were conducted at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy in Rockville, Md. Fire crews from Montgomery County, Maryland and Fairfax County, Virginia responded to live fires during the field experiments within this facility.
Speakers will include principal investigators from NIST and the International Association of Fire Fighters. A public stakeholder meeting follows immediately.
